Chlorine gas leak at Water Plant 11-22-2022
The water is safe to drink, and there was never any danger of excessive chlorine in the drinking water. If there had been a drinking water emergency, there would have been immediate additional steps taken to ensure the safety of our community.
The Holiday Shores Sanitary District responded immediately, and all proper protocol was followed. An immediate call to 911 was made to ensure the safety of all involved. Upon arrival, the HSSD personnel determined that there was a Chlorine gas leak inside of the water plant, due to a faulty valve on a chlorine cylinder. The HS Fire Department quickly responded, and after a determination that the Chlorine gas leak was still active, HSFD requested that the Madison County Hazmat team be activated to the site.
This was a minimal Chlorine gas leak with very little risk to anyone outside of the Water Plant. The situation was continuously monitored, and the Madison County Hazmat Team and the HS Fire Department asked Wiggler’s and The Vault to evacuate, as a precaution, due to a smell of Chlorine in the air, in close proximity to the water plant.
Holiday Shores Sanitary District wants to thank the Holiday Shores Fire Department for their immediate response and involvement in the investigation. We also want to thank the Madison County Hazmat Team for their expedited response and mitigation of the situation.
Thank you to the community for your support and understanding.
